Salt Road, Part Three: Where the Road Ends
Los Faros, eleven white houses and two lighthouses, and a woman who knew Nora’s father better than she did.
They reached Los Faros at noon on the fourth day. It was smaller than Nora had imagined: eleven white houses, a church with a blue door, two lighthouses on the cliff, one working and one not. The road simply stopped at the edge of the village, in a square of packed earth, as if whoever built it had run out of reasons to go further.
An old woman was sitting on a chair outside the first house, shelling beans into a bowl. She looked at the truck. She put the bowl down.
"That's Andrés's truck," she said.
